Cambodia is known as the Kingdom of Wonder. This can be attributed to the mysteries of the amazing Angkor Wat and the many beautiful temples throughout the country. There are so many wonderful things to do and friendly people to meet in Cambodia. Here are top things to explore in Siem Reap.
Phare, The Cambodian Circus
Phare, The Cambodian Circus, is a bit like Cirque Du Soleil. Performers mix theater, music, dance, and acrobatics to tell Cambodian stories. It was an excellent show and admission was only about $18. All proceeds go to Phare Ponleu Selpak, a non-profit organization aimed to improve the lives of children and young adults.
Motorbike Tour
Travel like the locals on a motorbike and tour the countryside. This tour stops along the way to visit children at a primary school and a local family business. I enjoyed learning about the different school schedules created to meet the needs of the families. I also enjoyed seeing how woven baskets and sugar were made from a palm.
Kompong Phluk Floating Village
Tonle Sap Lake, SE Asia’s largest freshwater lake is a connection to traditional Cambodian floating villages. There are a few different floating villages in Siem Reap. Kompong Phluk is an option. There are two distinct seasons in Cambodia; wet and dry. The water levels vary depending on the season. The houses in the village are on stilts which become completely submerged during the wet season. Learning about how the people of this village live was an extremely eye opening experience. The tour ends with Khmer dinner at a floating restaurant over Tonle Sap Lake.
Kompong Phluk Floating Village
Angkor Wat, Baksei Chamkrong, Angkor Thom, Bayon, Ta Prohm Temples
There are so many temples in Cambodia and it could take at least 3 weeks to visit all of them. Booking a tour was the BEST decision. Our tour guide, Po, was so amazing and I’d go back to just visit him! Below are picture and video highlights of the temples.
